Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages (general practice). Bay Health Center treats patients ages 2 and older. Care includes physical exams (including pap smears/prostate checks/school physicals), vaccinations, chronic care management (such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, thyroid conditions, weight issues, and more), cancer screening, and minor urgent care (rashes, UTI, sprains, cuts, and more). Family medicine is a primary care specialty.
Occupational Medicine, also known as Industrial Medicine, is the branch of medicine dealing with the prevention and treatment of job-related injuries and illnesses. Common services include job physicals (pre-employment, DOT, respirator clearance, fitness for duty), workers’ compensation care for work injuries (including sprains, fractures, lacerations, chemical exposures, burns, etc.), and Independent Medical Examinations/IME (evaluations of an injured or ill person that utilize a third party, independent medical professional to issue an unbiased opinion on the injury/illness.)
